Prospect Theater Company, a 25-year old NYC non-profit organization dedicated to the development and production of new musical theater, is seeking a new full-time staff member to join its team, working closely to support senior management (Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel, and Managing Director Melissa Huber) in a variety of producing activities.

The Associate Producer will be a core part of the small Prospect administrative staff, helping the organization achieve its goals during its upcoming 25th anniversary season and beyond, providing continuity between projects, and contributing to the company’s operations year-round.  We are seeking an emerging arts leader interested to invest in the continued growth of the organization and in moving its ambitious roster of creative projects forward.

The AP will report jointly to the Producing Artistic Director and the Managing Director. This position will include responsibilities spanning fundraising and event support; project management and line producing for creative programs (labs, readings, concerts, productions); budget and expense management for projects; helping assemble staff teams for project-based work; and providing general organizational support.

Ideal candidates should have 3-5 years of professional experience in arts administration or theater management roles, and will be detail oriented, possessing both financial management and strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Candidates should have a passion for new musicals, a desire to support early- and mid-career artists making new work, and a commitment to creating work spaces which are inclusive.

Prospect Theater Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants from populations underrepresented in the theater field are strongly encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, familial status, sexual orientation, national origin, ability, age or veteran status.

  • Assist in securing and communicating with venues for the company projects, to include spaces for rehearsal, theatrical production, residencies, and special events.

  • Collaboratively work to assemble staff and artistic teams for each company project and onboard them to assure contracts and paperwork are completed.

  • Manage budgets for creative projects, tracking expenses in partnership with other staff.

  • Manage creative development timelines and events to support artists and patrons.

  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Keep a substantive work schedule in our midtown Manhattan office during normal business hours.  Evening and weekend time will be required during events and productions.  Some remote work is possible.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in theater management, arts administration, or experience with independent producing.

  • Ability to work both independently on a self-directed basis, and as part of a team.

  • A basic understanding of the theatrical development production process, especially relating to new musicals.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Comfortable building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, Zoom and familiarity with database management systems.

  • Basic knowledge of websites, e-communications, digital graphics, and social media.

  • Knowledge of, or a passion to learn more about, the new musical theater field.

Prospect’s administrative staff works in a hybrid environment.  Our schedule varies based on the projects we produce.  While a part of the work responsibilities for this role may be accomplished remotely, this position is expected to require significant in-person work.
