Set amidst the political intrigue, religious conflict, and artistic vibrancy of the late Renaissance, DEATH FOR FIVE VOICES explores the dark harmonies of Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa — who is remembered both for his unusually complex madrigals and sacred music, as well as the extravagantly vicious double murder of his wife, Maria D‘Avalos, and her lover, Fabrizio Carafa.  Through a sophisticated choral score, this intimate and thrilling new musical investigates the source of both sexual and creative passion, and the fine line between madness and genius.
