WITH GLEE is a musical comedy about five young boys on their search for friendship and normalcy at a boarding school. Always struggling against overbearing parents and teachers, the five bond as they try to break out of school, steal the headmaster’s car — and put on a musical.

Writer and composer John Gregor received a 2004 Frederick Loewe Reading for his musical With Glee. He is also composer and co-lyricist of Pinkalicious The Musical, based on the book by Elizabeth and Victoria Kann. His musical adaptation of Gogol’s tragicomic short story “The Overcoat” has been presented in London at the Bridewell Theatre, Barrington Stage Company and The New York International Fringe Festival. He has also co-written several children’s musicals for the Vital Theatre Company, including The Changeling and The Bully.

Please prepare 2 contrasting 32-bar cuts that best display your vocal ability, one of which should be comic.

CHARACTERS:

Students

Seeking 5 ADULT MALE ACTORS to play the following teenage roles – looking for actors who can live comfortably in that distinctive “not a boy, not yet a man” place.  Strong vocal abilities (all parts) and a genuine sense of fun a must.

Nathaniel: An accidental troublemaker and lonely nerd and the anchor of our story.  Desperate to find friends, he tries over and over to connect with his peers and is met with a multitude of challenges along the way.

Clay: A lonely introvert.  The only returnee to boarding school (and the only one excited to be there), Clay learns to stop judging, open up and start having fun.

Kip: A theatre nut sent to school to “become a man.” The group cheerleader, Kip often rallies in the face of a bad situation.  Though his parents think he’s “too girlie,” he’s got more strength than even he knows.

Sam: A blue-collar kid from Pittsburgh, his preconceived notions of the upper class are challenged when he meets his new peers.   Quick, street-smart and bitter but with a heart of gold.

Scott: A rich WASP, he is fed up with the pressures of his family and New York society life.  Wants to be known for himself and not his money.  Sees boarding school as an opportunity to start anew.

Adults

Seeking ONE MALE ACTOR and ONE FEMALE ACTOR, 30s to 50s, to play a variety of roles including various parents, teachers and others.  Actors should possess vocal agility, ability to create versatile and definite characters, and comedic chops.
